About

Kate grew up in a home with an eclectic mix of art, books, and Danish modern furniture. Everything had a story. Furniture cycled through various stages of repair and revival. She thought everybody’s house had books lining every wall, and a dining table that doubled as a desk (until company came over).

We are all impacted by our surroundings, whether we realize it or not.

“My grandmother owned an interior design business in New York at a time when not a lot of women owned a business. And my great-great-grandmother came to this country with no money and started flipping properties. I’d like to think some of that initiative trickled down to me.” Kate recalls an Art-Deco curved desk of her grandmother’s, and feeling like a princess as she twirled around on the matching swivel chair. “I knew this piece was something special. And it wasn’t off-limits just because I was a kid. I really appreciate that now.”

Kate started staging properties for real estate agents in 2007. She realized that homes weren’t always best prepared for selling. “It’s a major transaction in someone’s life”, says Kate, “ I saw an opportunity to provide a service that could really impact the success of that sale.” That, combined with interior design has been the foundation of her business for 15 years. She has also worked with film and production teams, contributing design services to marketing and entertainment projects (Timberland Shoe, J Jill, HGTV).

Design is a strong and dominant part of everyday life, and Kate applies the most basic principles of balance, symmetry and warmth to all her services. She is creative, practical and truly cares how people feel about and respond to their space. Her design services aim to create environments that foster good feelings. She says she is inspired by everything around her because design takes on so many forms . It influences our everyday life. “A piece of bark on the ground makes me see color and texture. And it may sound silly, but that piece of bark can spark an idea for a client’s home.”

“My personal taste centers around vintage modern furniture, interesting textiles and odd pieces that need a place to park. I like variety and creating a space that isn’t necessarily predictable.” Kate likes creating design solutions, and loves the challenge of turning a problem area into something useful and enjoyable.

A variety of artistic and creative projects fill Kate’s personal time. It enhances the work she does for her clients, because how could it not? She refinishes furniture and is learning the art of in-painting, which is a restorative process of repairing damaged wood to make the repair undetectable. She works with wool fibers, and she draws and paints as well. She has also designed a collection of unique patterns for custom fabric and wallpaper, which you will see in the near future.

“All of my personal creative projects keep my eyes tuned and my mind fresh. And that absolutely translates to the work I do for my clients. I welcome the opportunity to help you love your space.”
